The Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is one of the newest attractions to open in Pigeon Forge and is sure to take your breath away! While you are simply a passenger on most roller coaster style rides, this mountain coaster puts you into the driver’s seat as you control the action down the mountain! Here are the top 5 things you need to know about riding the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster:
1. What to Expect
The Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is a unique combination of a roller coaster and toboggan sled ride where you control the brakes of your personal ride vehicle! This attraction is different than alpine slides because rather than riding a sled through a chute, your sled is securely attached to steel rails. This not only makes the ride experience safer, but allows you to travel at speeds of nearly 30 miles per hour! Since you control how fast you go, you can choose from a leisurely ride down the mountain or a thrilling journey at top speed! The coaster sits on more than 20 acres of beautiful Smoky Mountain scenery and features plenty of tunnels, curves and hairpin turns for your enjoyment.
2. Who Can Ride
While the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is a fun experience that the entire family can enjoy, there are a few ride restrictions. You must be at least 16 years old to control your own sled, and small children between the ages of 3 and 6 need to ride with someone 16 years or older. Each of the sleds can hold up to 375 pounds in dry conditions and 330 pounds in wet weather. As far as height requirements, you must be at least 56 inches to ride alone and the maximum height to ride is 84 inches. If riding as a passenger, the height requirement is 38 inches while the person controlling the sled must be 56 inches tall.
3. What Makes it Different
If you have visited Pigeon Forge in the past, you may be familiar with some of the other mountain coasters throughout the area. The Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is unique because it offers 4 separate lift hills and 4 drops, making it truly a one of a kind experience! The entire experience lasts about 9 minutes, which also makes it one of the longest mountain coaster rides around!
4. Dates and Hours
The Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the year. The attraction stays open in the rain and even in the snow, so don’t let any bad weather keep you from the fun! Of course, the mountain coaster will close in thunderstorms and heavy rains for the safety of guests and employees. After going for a ride in the daytime, be sure to come back after nightfall where the amazing lights will guide you along the track!
5. Ticket Information
There are a variety of ticket options for the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster, including adult tickets for ages 13 and above, youth tickets for ages 7 to 12 and kids tickets for ages 3 to 6. Note that second rides on the same day are offered at a reduced rate. You can also purchase group tickets at a discount if you have 20 or more people in your group.
